I obtained my bachelor's degree in Journalism from Michigan State University. I also have my teaching certificate in elementary education and high school English and social sciences. I have had more than 15 years of experience in an educator's role, including a variety of positions and students. I taught science in a unique way in California. I used truly hands-on activities, including kayaking, hiking, and snorkeling. I've also had the opportunity to guide a group of high school students to Africa and Central America, where I also tutored them in anthropology, history, sociology, and writing. I've also spent time as a classroom teacher, including teaching middle school age children history and English, and then moving on to Lisbon, Portugal, where I taught a diverse group of students from all over the world. I am a very enthusiastic and dedicated tutor, and because I've had so much experience, I have developed skills that have really enhanced my ability to effectively and efficiently tutor students. For one, I keep an open mind when meeting new students, because it's important that I get to know their particular interests, strengths, and challenges. Because students learn in different ways, I discover this information before creating individualized learning plans for each student.
